What is a babywearing consultation?
A one-on-one session where we explore babywearing in a way that works for you, your baby and your everyday life. Whether you're completely new to babywearing or looking to feel more confident with a carrier you already own, we'll work together to find what feels comfortable, practical and safe for you both.
Do I need to own a baby carrier before my consultation?
Not at all! If you're yet to buy a carrier, we can explore the different styles and options available to help you work out what might suit you best. If you already have one (or a few!), bring them along and we'll learn how to use them together. I will also bring my baby doll so you can feel comfortable before trying it with your own baby.
What if I've never used a baby carrier before?
You're in exactly the right place. Babywearing can feel a little overwhelming at first, with so many styles, straps and adjustments to navigate. I'll guide you through everything step by step, at your pace, so you can leave feeling more confident about carrying your baby.
What age can my baby be?
Babywearing can be wonderful from the newborn stage right through to toddlerhood, provided your carrier is suitable for your baby's age, size and developmental stage. We'll tailor our session to your baby's individual needs and talk through the options that are appropriate for them.
Can you help me with a carrier I've already purchased?
Absolutely! Sometimes a carrier that looks simple online can feel like a whole different story when you're trying to put it on with a wriggly baby. Bring your carrier along and we'll work through the fit, adjustments and positioning together.
What will I learn during the consultation?
We'll cover how to put on and take off your carrier, adjust it for a comfortable fit, position your baby safely and recognise when your baby needs a break. We'll also talk about your lifestyle, comfort and what you'd love babywearing to make easier — whether that's getting out for a walk, settling your little one or having your hands free while staying close.
Is babywearing safe for my baby?
When the right carrier is used correctly, babywearing can be a wonderful way to keep your baby close. We'll discuss safe positioning, keeping your baby's face visible and airway clear, and ensuring their head, neck and body are appropriately supported. I'll also help you understand the checks to make every time you wear your baby.
Babywearing requires particular care with newborns, premature babies and babies with certain medical or respiratory concerns.
Can my partner or another caregiver come along?
Of course! Babywearing is for anyone who wants to carry your little one. Partners, grandparents and other caregivers are welcome, and learning together can make it easier for everyone to feel confident using the carrier.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your baby, any carriers you already own, and anything you usually need to keep your little one comfortable. There's no need to have everything figured out before you arrive.
Will I feel confident using my carrier after one session?
That's our aim! We'll focus on practical, hands-on learning so you can practise with guidance and build confidence. Every parent and baby is different, and it's completely normal to need a little more practice once you're home. You don't need to master everything in one session.
How long is a babywearing consultation?
Each consultation runs for 60 minutes, giving us time to explore your needs, practise with your carrier and work through any questions you have.
Where do consultations take place?
Consultations take place in the comfort of your own home- in your bedroom if you'd like!
How much does a consultation cost?
A babywearing consultation with Bloom is $159 for a 60-minute session. Your session is tailored to you and your baby, with practical guidance and hands-on support to help you feel more comfortable and confident with babywearing.
What if my baby cries or needs feeding during our session?
That's completely okay! Babies don't always follow a schedule, and there's no need for yours to be settled or sleeping for us to get started. We'll follow your baby's cues, take breaks when needed and work around what feels right for you both.
Can you help if babywearing feels uncomfortable or causes me pain?
Yes, we can explore carrier fit, adjustments and positioning to help improve comfort. If you have ongoing pain, pelvic floor concerns or an injury, we may also discuss whether additional assessment from an appropriate health professional would be helpful.
