Frequently Asked Questions

What's an endorsed midwife?

An endorsed midwife is a registered midwife who has completed further study at university, and is authorised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to prescribe scheduled medicines, order diagnostic pathology and radiology tests. Endorsed midwives are eligible for Medicare provider numbers, so their clients can receive Medicare rebates, as per the Medicare Benefits Scheme. They provide comprehensive care, often in private practice, and have a minimum of 5000 hours of clinical experience.

Do I need a referral?

No, you no longer require a referral from a GP to access this care. All you need to do is book a discovery call with Bloom. You can access care with Elly from the very start of your pregnancy journey.

Can you be my midwife for pregnancy and birth?

Elly is currently not providing private birthing services as she is caring for her own little babes. Pregnancy care is coming in the near future, as a shared-care model.

Can my family be involved in appointments?

Yes, absolutely!

Part of the motivating factor for in-home care is to have whomever you like involved in your care. Whether it's your other children, your mum or your best friend. We're here for it.

How can I access bulk-billed phone support?

After your initial face-to-face appointment you will be eligible to assess unlimited bulk-billed phone or video support, between 9am-5pm.

Please note: clinical care cannot be provided via text messages.

How do the Medicare rebates work?

Provided you are eligible, you will receive a portion of the visit fee back from Medicare. Just like when you visit the GP. The arrangements are unique to your chosen package and situation. You are entitled to receive a greater return if you have reached your Safety Net threshold. Read more here.
