What is Calmbirth®? Calmbirth® is Australia's most trusted and evidence-based childbirth education program, founded in 2004. It prepares you emotionally, mentally, and physically for birth by using the mind-body connection to replace fear and anxiety with practical knowledge and skills.
Is Calmbirth® backed by research? Yes. The program is grounded in neuroscience, midwifery, obstetrics and epigenetics, and has been part of multiple research studies. It is clinically proven to reduce rates of medical intervention, reduce the use of pain relief and epidurals, and reduce the impact of perinatal anxiety and postnatal depression.
Who is the Calmbirth® course for? It's suitable for all pregnant couples - first-time parents, those who've had a previous challenging birth experience, those planning a caesarean, and anyone who wants to feel more confident and informed. Calmbirth® welcomes all couples regardless of age, culture, or sexual orientation.
When should I book? The ideal time to attend is between 24 and 34 weeks' gestation. This gives you time to practise the tools before birth. If you're feeling anxious, earlier is fine - and if you're past 34 weeks, you're still very welcome to join.
Does my partner need to come? Yes - and it's designed for them too. A big focus of Calmbirth® is equipping your support person to be your "guardian of space," helping protect your physical and emotional environment throughout labour and birth.
Will Calmbirth® work if I end up having a caesarean or needing intervention Absolutely. Calmbirth® is not about achieving a specific type of birth - it's about giving you the tools and mindset to have a positive experience no matter how your birth unfolds. The program specifically teaches you how to apply its techniques across all birth scenarios.
