Closing the Bones
A traditional Mexican ceremony to symbolise the closing of any rite of passage in a woman's life. Most commonly attended post-birth, this ceremony can be held after a first bleed, the transition into menopause, pregnancy loss, or any significant life event that leaves you open.
It is said that a mother's soul leaves her body through labour to seek the soul of her baby and guide them earthside. After the birth of her baby, a woman is left in a state of extraordinary openness as she transitions into motherhood, and works to incorporate the new life and soul of her baby. This beautiful ceremony facilitates gentle closure as she returns to her body and walks her new life journey into motherhood.
The ceremony begins in circle, setting intentions and clarifying what you are closing off on. A debrief of your birthing journey is welcomed here in order to commence the beginning of the closing. We invite you to bring an addition to the altar that will signify your journey. We then move into a full body massage using beautiful herbal oils hand made by us, whilst enjoying soothing sounds for pure relaxation. A herbal steam bath follows, in order to sweat out toxins and release any negativity or trauma that no longer serves you. You will experience deep drumming and wooden instruments to facilitate the movement. You are then tightly wrapped over your body to close, alongside spoken intentions and more sound energy. The unwrapping is slow, as you return from deep relaxation.
We will then close the circle with herbal tea and discussion about your journey, and what you have learned about your closing. It may take a longer period of time to land after your closing, and we encourage you to walk away gently and continue a period of slow going in the days following.
The ritual was taught to us by the amazing Meaghan Amor, and has given us express permission to recreate and attend the closing for any woman seeking.
The ceremony is approximately 2.5 - 3 hours in duration, taking place in your own home.
Investment is $450. A $100 deposit is required to secure your place, and is non-refundable.
Each component of the ceremony is extremely important, please arrange for someone to look after your child, or to come along with you and care for them as you honour your body.
