This beautiful mumma and her partner came to my January @calmbirth course this year. Her cheeky little man was breech for a while, but he turned himself the right way (down) and made his beautiful entrance into the world. Read on for the details ✨

"Labour was surprisingly quick! I had mild but regular contractions for approx 24hrs but I was able to get some sleep and go about my day. Then my waters broke around 8pm, things escalated quickly. I used the tens for 2-3 hrs at home after waters broke. It got me through plenty of intense contractions because Owen was posterior until towards the end of labour. I ended up having involuntary contractions at 4cm dilation and so I went to hospital. By the time I got to hospital (30min drive) I was 8cm and then had a water birth a couple of hours later. I ended up having no pain relief other than the tens and experienced all of the post-birth feel good hormones 🎉

I felt so good after birth that we left the hospital within 6hrs of the birth 🎉
Overall, it was extremely intense but I feel like it went relatively smoothly for a first time birth and I’m very grateful for that 😊 the @calmbirth course definitely provided a lot of reassurance for Gary and myself throughout pregnancy, labour and birth 🙌 thank you for running the course.

We are settling in well. It’s been a steep learning curve but thankfully I found a postpartum midwife who will provide support for the first 6wks 😊
Breastfeeding is going well too 🎉 Owen has already gained half a kilo in his first two weeks."

If I had to describe love, this is where I would start. It's a day I will revisit for the rest of my life, one of my favourite days. My journey with my baby was one of the most supremely empowering, life changing, incredible experiences of my life. My son asked me how I was feeling, and I said 'strong'.

This is the power of home birth. In your own time, in your own way. Surrounded by the most palpable love. It's the richest oxytocin and endorphin-filled high ✨

The 8th of March is a day that started as a protest for women’s rights- to be seen, to be heard, to be counted. Today, it’s a very different landscape. This mumma knew she needed to lean into herself, come to @calmbirth and learn how powerful her body is. She contacted me at the last minute after trying to find a local course (without success), knowing she needed to empower herself. She told stories of long-held trust issues with her body, and this being a 'surprise' pregnancy had her on the back foot. But she put the work in, committed herself to the practice and left her birth feeling "in awe" of herself. Read on for the details 👇

"Hi Elly - just wanted to update.

We had our beautiful baby girl Rylee Anne-Maree Darlington on 17/02/26 at 0117hrs weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces. 53cm long and 35.5cm head circumference. She is pure perfection.

My hindwaters spontaneously broke on my due date at 4am. We has a 44 hour long latent labour phase with a 5 hour active labour phase, 8 mins pushing no pain relief other than TENS, water injections (once because that pain is worse than childbirth 😂) and the use of the shower/bath. Calm birth helped so incredibly much with our education and understanding of the process. Jayden was so confident in helping. I had a couple days use of the TENS machine and it was truely so helpful! The breathing and visualisation made such a difference." (continued in comments below).

Babywearing often challenged me when I had my first baby. I didn’t know this community existed, and honestly… I really wish I had. I felt overwhelmed by carriers, confused about fit, and just couldn’t find my groove. I made so many mistakes.

Now I know: it doesn’t have to be that hard.

My hope is to spread the word far and wide about the benefits of babywearing, how to find the carrier that truly suits you, and how to use it safely and comfortably.

Because you can give your baby everything they need — closeness, comfort, connection — and have a little more freedom and ease to move through your day.

Even when birth has unfolded beautifully, the weeks that follow can feel tender, unfamiliar, and overwhelming at times.

This isn’t a sign that something is wrong.
It’s a sign that something important is happening.

As a midwife of well over 10 years, I have seen some powerful women bring their babies earth side. Something that always stood out for me was not necessarily their ‘calm’ or ‘composed’ demeanour through labour, it was their ability to walk into the discomfort head on. While pregnant with my third baby, I was fortunate enough to read one of my now favourite books by @rheadempseybirth ‘Birth With Confidence’. She speaks so eloquently about how to get friendly with pain and how to stretch your capacity. It’s the first book I recommend to any pregnant person that asks.

So this is my message: get comfortable with being uncomfortable!

Got some absolute rippers out of the @raisedgood Parenting Summit over the last week. I love this quote particularly from @droscarserrallach. I teach this very thing in my @calmbirth course. When we used to live in villages we received imprints of mothering and learned skills to equip us for when we moved into our own mothering era. It would have felt instinctual and natural.

Perhaps this is where we get the idea that we’re ‘failures’ because we feel like we don’t know what we’re doing, but we have this biological wiring that tells us we should know. Society is different now, and we are more isolated as mothers than we have ever been.

So, the next time you feel those dark thoughts creeping in, remind yourself you’re doing it in a completely different way and show yourself some compassion. Because mothering is a learned skill. We are ALL learning every day 🌸

Essential oils are a wonderful tool for safe use in pregnancy, labour and birth. Aromatherapy has long been observed as a powerful way to set the tone of your birth space 💫

I used essential oils a lot during pregnancy. In the evenings I would sit on my birth ball, light a candle, set my intentions for labour and birth, practice my @calmbirth Conscious Breath Techniques and listen to the @calmbirth relaxations. It was a beautiful way to connect with my baby and my body, while strengthening my subconscious resources for birth.

I had the incredible honour of receiving a Closing the Bones ceremony with my amazing postpartum doula @_bec.wong_ and the lovely @belleandthewild. I can’t describe the deep reverence and connection I felt through the day. I felt so held, and so loved. This was a very intentional choice for me, the opportunity to close off after the opening for my pregnancy and birth. After a journey inward, I felt my nervous system come back into alignment and my body felt stronger than before. I am so grateful to receive this ancient wisdom, passed to me by my sisters ✨🧙🏼‍♀️
